Unemployed teachers launch indefinite protest at SSC Bhavan, demand eligibility list after 2016 recruitment cancellation

On Monday, thousands of teachers and educational workers, who were affected by the Supreme Court's recent cancellation of the 2016 recruitment process, gathered for an indefinite sit-in protest at the School Service Commission (SSC) office in Karunamoyee, Salt Lake. The protesters are demanding that the SSC release the list of 'eligible-ineligible' candidates from the recruitment process. They stated that they would not leave the premises until this list is made public.

The 2016 recruitment process, conducted by the School Service Commission, was annulled by the Supreme Court due to widespread corruption in the selection procedure. The court’s decision led to the termination of approximately 26,000 teaching and non-teaching jobs. This decision has left many of the affected individuals in a state of uncertainty about their future and employment status. The protesting groups, including representatives from the 'Sangharshrat Joints Forum,' 'Yogya Shikshak-Shikshika Adhikar Manch,' and 'Group-C, Group-D Shiksha Karmi Manch,' are demanding transparency from the SSC.

The protesters have made it clear that they will not disperse until their demand for the release of the eligibility list is met. The list, they argue, is crucial for understanding the reasons behind the Supreme Court’s verdict and to clarify the status of all candidates involved in the recruitment process. The protest is growing in size, with more teachers joining the demonstration, and tensions are rising as the situation unfolds. The SSC has yet to respond publicly to the demands of the protesters.
